About the M40 Rifle

The M40 rifle has served as one of the most recognizable precision rifle platforms in United States Marine Corps history. Beginning with the original M40 during the Vietnam War, the platform evolved through multiple generations as Marine Corps armorers refined the rifle around changing operational requirements, improved optics, stronger stocks, detachable magazines, suppressor capability and eventually a fully modular chassis system.

The M40A1 established the classic Marine Corps sniper rifle configuration with its Remington 700 short action, heavy match barrel and McMillan fiberglass stock. The M40A3 modernized the platform with the adjustable McMillan A4 stock and updated mounting system. The M40A5 added detachable magazines, a suppressor-compatible muzzle system and provisions for forward-mounted night vision. The M40A6 represented the final major evolution of the platform, replacing the traditional fiberglass stock with the modular Remington Defense RACS chassis.

The B&B Firearms M40A1, M40A3, M40A5 and M40A6 are built for collectors and shooters who want more than an M40-inspired rifle. Each model is configured around the historically appropriate components, dimensions and features associated with its respective generation, using original-pattern components and parts sourced from original manufacturers where available.

Our goal is to preserve the characteristics that make each generation immediately recognizable as an M40 sniper rifle, from the traditional lines of the M40A1 to the modern modular construction of the M40A6.

Whether you are looking for an M40A1, M40A3, M40A5, M40A6, or building a complete collection of M40 rifles, these rifles provide an opportunity to own a newly manufactured, historically faithful recreation of an important chapter in American military precision-rifle history.
