Not all extreme long range rifles and precision rifles are created equal. First of all they are all available in different chamberings, which makes arguably the biggest impact on overall performance. Second, they are all equipped with different actions, features, and stocks and chassis, some of which are highly modular, adjustable, and expandable, and others which are not so much.
In short, there are many excellent ELR and precision rifles out there, so we rounded up some of the best long range rifles from our catalog based on application and feature.
Best for ELR Shooting: M200 Intervention Sniper Rifle
Chambered in either .375 or .408 CheyTac, the M200 Intervention Sniper Rifle is one of the best long range rifles out there, overall, and the platform is credited with some of the longest confirmed kills on record.
While the rifle itself is excellent, and is outfitted with a highly adjustable, highly modular stock that enables a custom-like fit to the shooter, it’s the chambering here that’s the game changer.
These two cartridges were developed for ELR shooting, and are loaded with balanced flight projectiles that remain supersonic for longer, and which are CNC-machined from solid copper, ensuring the highest possible degree of cross-sectional consistency and radial symmetry, making them extremely accurate.
Both .408 and .375 CT are excellent cartridges for extreme long-range shooting, but the former hits a little harder and the latter shoots a little flatter. You don’t need to choose, though, as a simple barrel swap can render the CheyTac M200 Intervention sniper rifle capable of chambering and firing either.
In the Same League: Cadex Defense CDX-40 SHDW
The Cadex Defense CDX-40 SHDW is another excellent option, and this rifle is also available chambered in either .375 or .408 CT, along with the option for a chambering in .357 EnABELR.
While there are many selling points of this Cadex rifle, the chassis on which it is built is one of the greatest; it is highly adjustable and can be adjusted to the shooter without tools, which makes it very versatile in the field.
In addition, the rifle sports 5R rifling which incurs less bullet deformation, upholding a higher degree of accuracy, and which is easier to clean. On top of that, the rifle sports a folding stock that reduces the dimensions, streamlining transport, and in the folded configuration the butt protects the bolt.
Best for Anti-Materiel Applications: ArmaLite AR50A1
If you’re looking for a rifle that actually produces serious stopping power downrange, it’s hard to do better than the ArmaLite AR50A1.
Chambered in .50 BMG, an old school classic among long-range rifle cartridges, there’s little out there that can deliver more stopping power on the same grounds as other ELR rifles.
In terms of sheer accuracy, there are other, better ELR rifles, but the affordable price of the AR50A1 and the raw power of its chambering make it highly attractive as one of the best long range rifles out there.
Best for Big Game Hunting at Extreme Ranges: Victrix Sceptre V
Anyone out there that wants to hunt big game at extreme ranges, like reindeer, muskoxen, bears, elk, bison, or otherwise, will be well-served by a long-range rifle such as the Victrix Armaments Sceptre V.
The value here is in the chambering. This rifle is available in other .338 Lapua or .300 Norma Magnum, both of which are not just great for ELR shooting, but which are available in loads that are ideal for hunting big game at extreme ranges.
Best for Those Who Can’t Choose One Caliber: Accuracy International AXSR
The big selling point of the Accuracy International AXSR is that one platform can handle multiple chamberings. These multi-caliber platforms can handle 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Winchester, .338 Lapua and .300 Winchester Magnum. All you need is an appropriate caliber kit and to swap the affected components and you can convert the rifle.
But, even on top of that, the AXSR is an excellent rifle because of its high degree of adjustability, modularity, and expandability, among other features.
Best for Those That Don’t Want to Look High and Low for Ammo: Victrix Armaments Kinetic
Like the other precision rifles on this list, the Victrix Armaments Kinetic is great because it is accurate, adjustable, and expandable. But it has another trick up its sleeve: it’s available chambered for some more accessible cartridges, such as .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor. These cartridges are far more accessible and far less expensive than some of the other cartridges mentioned here, such as .338 Lapua, .50 BMG, and .375 and .408 CT.
There is even a Kinetic variant available chambered in .22LR, which is a great option for precision shooters that prefer rimfire shooting. And, of course, ammo will again be far less expensive.
