Cadex Defense makes some of the best long-range rifles and precision rifles in the industry, with extremely modular, adjustable chassis that make each platform perform like a custom rifle rather than a factory stock option.
With that said, some of the best Cadex rifles out there right now come from the CDX-R7 SHP (Sheepdog) series. Here’s a breakdown of just about everything you’ll love about one of these.
- Your choice of calibers, with common options
Many extreme long-range rifles only offer you a few options in terms of chambering, such as .50 BMG or .375 or .408 CT. These are excellent ELR cartridges, but they can be not only hard to find, but extremely expensive.
This Cadex Defense rifle platform is available in a variety of common chamberings such as .308 Winchester and 6.5 Creedmoor which are much more widely available and much more affordable as well.
- 5R rifling
These Cadex rifles sport barrels with 5R rifling, which consist of five lands and grooves, but in which the grooves are smoother, without the sharp edges found in some rifling. This reduces drag on the bullet, wear on the rifling, and results in a bore that is less amenable to accumulating fouling. The end result is the rifling lasts longer, the bore stays cleaner, and the rifling design minimizes bullet deformation, increasing accuracy.
- M-LOK attachment points
The Cadex chassis with which these rifles are equipped is the company’s Strike Nuke Evo, which is light, stable, ergonomic, and which is outfitted with a variety of attachment points, including M-LOK slots on the forend, which are perfect for a wide range of shooting attachments.
- An optional M-LOK bipod rail
These Cadex rifles can also be equipped with optional M-LOK bipod rails, giving shooters the flexibility to outfit them with bipods for enhanced stability and accuracy in the field.
- The adjustability of the Cadex chassis
This is probably the biggest selling point of these Cadex rifles. Outfitted with the aforementioned Strike Nuke Evo Cadex chassis, the stock is highly adjustable for comb height, length of pull, and more.
Recoil pad height is adjustable, as is the comb height, and for LOP, there is a quarter-inch spacer included, though others can be purchased to extend LOP for a better fit to the shooter.
- Tool-free adjustability
In these Cadex rifles, the comb height is specifically adjustable without tools; the cheek piece is spring-loaded and can be adjusted not just vertically, but side to side, to accommodate a perfect fit to the shooter with respect to ideal comb height and eye relief.
- Compatibility with Remington 700 clones
The Remington 700 action is one of the most reliable and durable rifle actions that has ever been developed. As a result the 700 is one of the most popular platforms of all time. If you have a Remington 700 action, or a clone, you’ll be glad to know that this Cadex chassis is specifically compatible with them (as well as with Tikka T3X and CDX SEVEN S.T.A.R.S. actions).
- A built-in aluminum micro-chassis
Within the Cadex chassis that supports this rifle is an aluminum micro-chassis, which provides exceptional stability and which eliminates action movement, resulting in superior accuracy, especially at extreme ranges.
- The included muzzle brake
These Cadex rifles come with MX2-ST tactical muzzle brakes that help eliminate recoil so you can focus more closely on shot execution. They’re also suppressor ready.
- Interchangeable bolt knobs

In addition to the fact that these rifles sport ergonomic bolts and strong actions, the bolt knobs are interchangeable thanks to a threaded interface, giving you the flexibility to add a bolt knob that’s more comfortable for you to run.
- A DX2 EVO trigger
The DX2 EVO triggers of these Cadex rifles are capable of both single and two-stage operation, and can easily be converted back and forth between the two. These triggers are also easily adjustable between 1.5 and 2.5 lbs.
- An ergonomic grip
The Cadex chassis of these rifles are outfitted with ergonomics grip that reduce shooter fatigue thanks to an ambidextrous palm swell and an extremely comfortable thumb rest.
- The price
Lastly, the Cadex rifles in the CDX-R7 SHP series are on the more competitive side with respect to price; we offer them here around $4,500, giving you the ability to get into extreme long-range shooting with an excellent platform at an even more attractive price.
