The Lowest Bore Axis, a Low Center of Gravity, and a Fixed Barrel
What really sells the Laugo Arms Alien pistol is its unique design that is ripe with features that control recoil and muzzle flip, enabling faster target reacquisition and faster, more confident, more accurate follow up shots.
One of the secrets here is the lowest possible bore axis; the Laugo Arms Alien sports a bore axis that is just 1.7mm under the axis of the shooter’s grip. This produces extremely minimal muzzle flip, about 5 degrees or less, for an extremely fast return to target and faster, more accurate follow up shots.
The Laugo Arms Alien also sports a very low center of gravity, keeping the mass of the pistol in line with the grip, further reducing felt recoil and muzzle flip.
In addition, the Laugo Arms Alien does not utilize a locking slide and has a fixed barrel, forgoing traditional locking and trigger mechanisms, resulting in smoother shooting. Since the barrel does not unlock or cycle during firing, this considerably influences the accuracy of this platform.
Gas Piston Delayed Blowback and a Low-Mass Slide
This pistol sports numerous additional features that work synergistically with a low bore axis and center of mass to reduce recoil.
Among these are a gas pistol delayed blowback operation and a low-mass slide. Whereas most 9mm handguns are either recoil-operated or direct blowback operated, the Laugo Arms Alien is cycled by a gas pistol roller delayed system that is smooth-shooting, long-lasting, and reliable.
The expanding gases slow the movement of the non-locking slide, which itself is lower in reciprocating mass, further cutting back on felt recoil and muzzle flip. These features allow for maximum recoil control even when shooting a wide range of different 9mm ammo, from light target loads to heavy, defensive, +P rounds.
In addition, this handgun sports interchangeable, non-reciprocating top rails; as a result, the sights do not reciprocate during cycling. This enables a clearer, uninterrupted sight picture and keeps the sights on target, minimizing sight drift and inaccuracy between follow-up shots.
The non-reciprocating top rail design also hedges the longevity of red dot sights and other optics whose lifespans would be adversely affected by the stresses of recoil and cycling.
For all this, the Laugo Arms Alien is a surprisingly lightweight and nimble 9mm handgun, and weighs only 2.2 lbs without the mag, and 2.47 pounds with an empty mag. It handles agilely and is highly maneuverable in the hand.
Extreme Modularity and Customizability
The Laugo Arms Alien pistol has just one takedown pin that empowers the operator to easily convert the top rail system between iron sights or a red dot sight, without losing zero.
The Alien also sports a bottom rail under the slide which is ideal for mounting lights, lasers or other similar shooting accessories, making it exceptionally modular and expandable for a pistol platform.

Compared even to other large handguns, like the Desert Eagle (8.5 inches) and the 6-inch Colt Python (8.25 inches), the Laugo Arms Alien is pretty generous.
For those who equip their Alien pistols with an RDS, this is a nonissue, but for those that shoot over iron sights will be well-served by the more-forgiving, longer sight radius of the Alien.
